I wish I could give 5 stars for the app and 1 star for this book. OMG – unless you have a microscope nearby or have amazing vision it will be a HUGE pain in your rear trying to read the microscopic text in this book. The program I teach for requires this book for the pharma class, however, I always recommend to my students that they get the app instead.

The book: The text is seriously sooo small that it makes it really challenging to use. In addition, it’s not really easy to find what you want, so between the challenge of finding what you want and the teeny tiny text it’s really frustrating to use. HOWEVER….

The App: The app is GREAT! It is incredibly user friendly, very easy to look up information, links related information, again, making it easy to use. I have android & usually android apps are developed after apple, so I’d have to assume the apple app is good too. Of my students who download the app no one has complained – yet I do have students who complain about the book, as they might miss things trying to look up info in the book.

Should you use this over Medscape or epocrates apps? YES. The information contained in the App will help assure you select the correct antimicrobial for the potential or verified infective agent. For example, travel medicine: You have a client who returns from traveling ins SE Asia and has had diarrhea for a few weeks. Which antimicrobial should you prescribe? Most references will send you the wrong way, as what is standard for MOST returnee travelers is NOT correct for those who come from SE Asia. The App is very clear on this, the other med apps (medscape & epocrates) are not, and it can also be harder to find the information in the book.
