If you’re in nursing school and specifically LPN school, this is the textbook that is starting to be used for the "Human Growth and Development" class being taught. Many textbooks I purchase for school I end up regretting purchIDg (especially when I buy new) at the end of the class because I come to find out, most of what is discussed in class and what we’re tested on comes from the instructor’s lecture and sometimes doesn’t even correlate with the book. I’ve heard this from students at other nursing school too so it isn’t just my instructor.
I will say though, if you simply read the book for some pretty detailed knowledge about growth and development, you will be satisfied. Starting at fertilization and going through late-adulthood, the author does a wonderful job of giving very specific information about each stage of life. For those of us with children, we can correlate the information to our own lives easier but even students in my class without children did very well in the class and even said they felt much more prepared for when the time comes that they decide to have children.
The book is paperback and isn’t very thick, especially when compared to most textbooks and the price is reasonable for the information you’re receiving. If it’s a required text, you have to buy it, but even if it’s not, I’d recommend getting it, even if you have to buy used because I think you’ll enjoy the information in this book.

This book is on the required reading list of my program to certify therapeutic harpists in their work in clinical settings. I found this book to be a comprehensive and easy to read textbook for education about all phases and stages of life, from many aspects – physical, emotional, psycho-social and spiritual. The book can be easily read by a layperson who wants to be informed about the human being across the lifespan.
This book is easy to read and understand, and contains lots of great information. It reinforces material learned in psychology class, and adds a medical side to it through the years as our bodies age. Very helpful and a good refresher.
